New Lights, New Background!
Picked up a westcott 7' parabolic umbrella. Puts out nice light, too heavy for my umbrella bracket and it wants to point down. Also purchased a 46" octa from westcott as well. LOVE IT! Throw in a portable background with seamless white and I have something to keep me busy for a while. Enjoy!

DIY Mini Cyc
After viewing some Mini Cyc's out of the B&H magazine, I thought there could be a cheaper alternative.
Fast forward: Stopped by Walmart to pick up some totes and saw this:
Decided to make a few adjustments:
Took a trip into the boy's room. Placed the Cyc on the porch in full sun and shot this.

Used lightroom to bring more contrast and clarity. I"m sure with a little PS work the shadow of the domed bottom would be of little significance.
As done below, and throw in a little B+W for fun...

Wish List
Well, tore down the studio from the back building. Real bummer, didn't work out like I'd hoped. Moved stuff to attached garage. More practical, but i'm having a few more difficulties. Looking to move away from constructed wall to get a portable background. Next on my list is more lights. I was hoping to save money with the constructed wall and spend my money on my lights.
o-blah-di
o-blah-da
(I think i'd be chipper, but my kid is running a fever, and that's no fun)

Garage to Studio Remodel
Here it is Finally!
If I've learned anything about makign a how-to video, is to watch how-to videos on how to make a how-to video. You'll see what I mean. ;)
Some Portraits taken in said studio
BTS description to accompany video of studio build part 1
The lamp I made that is used in the video
Reason I keep saying Part 1, part 2 would be the adjacent wall drywalled and painted. Extending the floor out another 4 feet and trying to make it all seamless.
Now on to the video!

Tried a black sheet, turned background grey, then moved to white. Much Better. |

ChadGoldmanPhotography.com
It's been a month now that I've set up ChadGoldmanPhotography.com, and about 3 weeks since I've let it go live. As of right now, I stand at 25,990 photo views. I'm pleased with that number. Now, the trick is keeping it up! There is a couple of things I wanted to accomplish with the website.
1. Since I take many photos of folk who are not from my immediate area, I have had difficulties showing them photos and delivering prints. The website would take care of that aspect. Personally, I'd rather meet with the individuals and discuss what they like and what all I can do for them but sometimes convienence trumps.
2. Nature photos. In my little world, I'd love to see a few prints purchased of my nature photos. Those are the ones that bring me the most joy. I just hope others will enjoy them as much as I do.
If you have not stopped by the website yet, please check it out. I'm still developing things as I go. Learning a little CSS, working in new platforms for editings, and extending my skills. One of the most exciting things I have coming up is the renovation of my workshop into a photoshop (ya, i know.) It's been cleaned and prepped, now for the additions. I'm hoping to have a lot of fun in there. The plan is building a 8X8 curved corner wall, that extends 10 feet high. A floor would extend out to 8X8 as well. I have a few tricks up my sleeve, we'll see how they play out. For now, look forward to my next post of the construction process.
Enjoy,
Chad

Here's the set up for the shots I took:
The background had to be smoothed out in post because nails holding the sheet to the wall.
In addition I used two foam core boards, a white board was on his lap and a black board was held camera right, just out of view.
The doors are the folding doors from my kids closet doors.
Enjoy
