Some recent attempts at making my own beauty dish brought out some DIY tips from shoots past.  Now, don't worry, the Beauty Dish (if you can call it that) will be posted as soon as I purchase some zip ties and finish the assembly.  Inspired by a few trips over to Larry's  As for now.

Light Stand: Old stool high-jacked from previous home coupled with kinetic adolescent strobe attachment. Total Cost - $0 (the kinetic adolescent strobe attachment is designed to resemble a sweet little boy, let me remind you that it is just a replica for aesthetic purposes and is in no way sweet.)

Reflector (not being used) Car Window Reflector, Walmart. Total Cost-$8

Backdrop White sheet, Walmart. Total Cost - $4

Model Cousin/Neighbor Total Cost - Facebook uploads

Final Cost: 12 bucks.

Rock'n the Globe diffuser in broad daylight.

Liv joined me for a few renegade runs through town for some photos.  Despite the sunny appeal of the photo, it was quite chilly out.  Liv is set up on the back stop of the recess baseball diamond at our elementary school with the sun in the background.  I'm using a ND+8 on the lens.  I was wanting to try shooting in bright sun.  I placed Liv in between the sun and myself and used two flashes.  The globe diffused sb600 is on the ground with a speedlight foot directly out of frame to the right.  I think I had another sb600 hand held direct flash. All ttl. the aviators were to protect her from the flash, the trade off was a cool look.  Edited in lightroom.

Wanted to see some texture and shadows on Liv's face.  I made the pic too...(bonus!) This is shot at 1/60th, full sun.

Specs: D90 50 mm; f6.3, ISO 200, 1/200th. ND+8 Filter

#37 and Beyond...

Ok, who ever came up with red icing was just being creepy.  This IS icing from cupcakes, despite what it looks like.

and just because.

Stats: D90, 85 mm Macro, Globe Diffuser (awesome, just a pain to get hooked on...and too bad the sb-600 doesn't lock in the top position. Always afraid of it falling down.)
